Visit to Sachsenhausen ...
The trip to Sachsenhausen was really sad. I think it's one thing to sit in a class room and learn about what happened to all of the people and what went on in the concentration camps, but to really be there and standing inside those walls hearing the stories was a whole different experience. Seeing some of the personal stories of what happened to people: the experiments, beating, working them to death and even the prostitution was heart wrenching. Also, seeing items that used to belong to people who had been imprisoned there and the leather they found when excavating parts of Sachsenhausen that prisoners had to destroy; things that had belonged to the ones who had been killed. I think it effected everyone in the group because I don't think anyone really even spoke as we were walking out of the complex.
