The train ride to Hamburg: What was it like to spend 2 hours on a train? Why do you think Germans take trains? What are the dis/advantages of taking the train?

I agree with Olivia!!  The train ride was spectacular!  I think a lot of Germans use the trains because it is overall just a better way to travel.  By taking the train you don’t have to have the responsibility of owning a car; maintenance, insurance, gas and everything else that’s comes along with owning a car can get expensive.  Not to mention driving in a big city can be really tough.  It seems a lot simpler to get on the U-Bahn or S-Bahn that will take you directly to the train.  Walking places and taking the train would also be better not only on a person’s health, with all the walking, but also the impact on the environment would be much less.  Trains also get you places much faster than a car!!  The only disadvantage I can see is either having to carry a lot of things with you that you would normally take in a car or needing transportation when you got to the destination, but that's what buses are for.

Many Americans do not use trains because there are very few of them.  Trains in the states are usually only found in the bigger cities and I think the people there do make really good use of them.  Cities such as Cookeville have so few places to go it might not be worth a train system.  Where would we put the stops? Wal-Mart, TTU, the little shopping center etc.  In the states we don’t even have trains that run across country which I think would be a great thing! People would be able to travel further for less and, like the German population, help the environment.

Trains really are a great option to have and I think the states really need to consider building more and educating people on the benefits; maybe then more people would be inclined to want and use a train system.
