Sachsenhausen...
Near the final days of the Berlin trip our group visited Sachsenhausen which was a Nazi concentration camp. Going to this concentration camp was really an eye opener and hit you like a fist to the stomach. Around 250,000 people died here. The front of the gate had the words "Arbeit Macht Frei" which literally meant that if you worked hard enough and long enough you would be set free. What the people didn't know though was that the Germans knew that the sign meant that when you died you would be free. As if this wasn't cruel enough there was a hospital where Dr. Schmitz would do various experiments on the prisoners. His experiments were so cruel that I am not even going to talk about them as reading what he did to the prisoners was literally torture and no human should have gone through that. This concentration camp was really creepy and I did not like being their. I still encourage people to go and experience this place as it really just opens your eyes to what really happened and gives you a feeling of sympathy for the people that died their.
