Share something about the part of Berlin, "Kiez", your host family lives in. What is special about that part of Berlin?

The part of Berlin out host family lived in had a few interesting things about it. I didn't get much of a chance to explore our own area since we were so busy exploring other places!  The area our family lived in had one (or it was I can't remember) of the largest hospitals in Berlin!  Also, right next door to that was the center for disease control!  Just in case there really is a zombie attack we now know where to go :)  When were driving back to the airport we passed a prison and our host father told us that is where they put political persons and where they executed them as well.  He said there is a room in their where there are 20 hooks all in a row and the police/SS used to make a sport out of seeing how many people they could hang in one day!  :(  Also, out host house was really close to a very large river that people could walk along; it would have been especially nice in the summer!!  I wish I had had more time to explore our side of the neighborhood, but it was still a really fantastic area!
